01 How it works

  1. Choose an image.
  2. Pick JPEG or WebP and a quality level.
  3. Download the re-encoded image.

02 Good to know

Compression re-encodes a still image. Lower quality can reduce file size while adding visible artifacts, but already small images may grow. Inspect the result before replacing the original.

03Balance file size and visible detail

Lower quality settings usually produce smaller lossy files, with more visible artifacts. The result depends on the image, so inspect fine edges, text, and gradients at the size you plan to use.

Compression can make an already small file larger. Try resizing first when the image has more pixels than the destination needs.

04Choose JPEG or WebP

JPEG is widely supported and does not preserve transparency. WebP supports transparency and can use lossy encoding. This tool re-encodes one still image; it does not promise a target file size.

05 Questions

Will compression always make the file smaller?

No. Re-encoding can increase the size, especially when the source is already optimized or small.

Does lowering quality affect the image?

Yes. JPEG and lossy WebP can introduce visible artifacts as quality decreases. Review the downloaded image before publishing it.

Can I set an exact kilobyte target?

No. Choose a format and quality level, then check the resulting file size.
