- Add a PDF.
- Choose editable, exact layout or picture.
- Download the .docx file.
02 Good to know
Editable mode rebuilds headings, lists, tables and images as Word content. Exact layout positions text over a page image as an approximation; pages with rotated text are saved as pictures and are not editable. Scanned pages can be OCR'd first.
03Choose how the Word file should work
Add a PDF and select Editable for flowing text, headings, lists, and detected tables; Exact layout for text boxes positioned over a page image; or Picture perfect for page images.
Editable mode is intended for changing the words and structure. Exact layout aims to retain the page arrangement, while picture mode keeps the appearance as an image rather than editable text.
04Scanned pages and complex layouts
Scanned pages contain images instead of selectable text. Enable OCR to recognize their words before creating editable or positioned content. Check names, amounts, and other details because recognition can make mistakes.
Multi-column pages, rotated text, and unusual spacing are difficult to reconstruct. In exact layout mode, rotated text pages are saved as pictures and cannot be edited as text.
05Review before editing or sharing
Open the DOCX in Word or another compatible editor and compare it with the PDF. Check table boundaries, reading order, page breaks, and any content that must remain exact.
For a PDF created from a Word file, the reverse conversion is usually a better fit: use Word to PDF and keep the DOCX as your editable source.
06 Questions
Can I edit the Word document after conversion?
Choose Editable mode to rebuild text and structure as Word content. Review the document because reconstruction may need cleanup.
How do I convert a scanned PDF to Word?
Enable OCR for scanned pages, then inspect the recognized text before relying on it.
Does Exact layout make all text editable?
It places text in positioned boxes over a page image, but rotated text pages are saved as pictures and are not editable.
