Audio is decoded and processed in this tab at its original sample rate. Results are saved as WAV.

01 How it works

  1. Choose one audio file.
  2. Mix its channels into mono.
  3. Download the result.

02 Good to know

All channels are averaged into one channel. Browser codec support applies; each input is limited to 300 MB and three hours, with browser memory limits applying.

03How stereo-to-mono conversion works

Choose an audio file to combine all of its channels into one mono channel. The processor averages the channel samples at each point in time and saves the result as WAV.

Averaging can reduce or cancel sound when channels contain opposite-phase versions of the same signal. Listen to the mono output before replacing or discarding a multichannel original.

04Input limits

The browser must support the file's codec. Inputs are limited to 300 MB and three hours, and decoded audio uses browser memory. The output is a 16-bit PCM WAV.

05 Questions

Does this tool select only the left or right channel?

No. It averages all input channels into one mono channel.

Why might the mono file sound quieter?

Averaging can cause partial cancellation when channels contain out-of-phase audio. Check the result against the original.
