01 How it works

  1. Add a PDF.
  2. Enter a password and choose permissions.
  3. Download the protected PDF.

02 Good to know

Uses AES-256 encryption. Permissions such as printing and copying are respected by standard PDF readers.

03Set a password and permissions

Enter the password twice, then download the encrypted copy. The tool requires at least six characters. It uses AES-256 encryption; the password cannot be recovered if you forget it.

Advanced options let you allow or restrict printing, copying, editing, comments and form filling. An optional permissions password is needed to change those restrictions later.

04Share the password safely

Send the password through a separate channel from the PDF. Anyone who has both can open the document.

Reader applications vary in how they enforce permission restrictions. Use an opening password to limit access, and do not treat permission settings as a substitute for protecting the password or the file itself.

05 Questions

Can a forgotten PDF password be recovered?

This tool cannot recover it. Keep the password somewhere safe before you download the encrypted copy.

Can I choose whether people may print or copy?

Yes. Advanced settings let you allow or restrict printing, text copying, editing, comments and form filling. How readers honor those permissions can vary.
