The browser decodes and samples this video locally. Seeking lands on the nearest keyframe and some codecs may not be supported.

01 How it works

  1. Choose one video file.
  2. Choose the number of sample frames.
  3. Download the contact sheet.

02 Good to know

Frames are sampled across the video using browser seeking; seek timing can depend on keyframes. The sheet is limited to a 16 megapixel canvas, so large frames may allow fewer samples. Browser codec support is required; files can be up to 500 MB.

03Make a video contact sheet from sampled frames

Choose a video, set the number of sample frames, then download one PNG contact sheet. The samples give you a quick visual scan without exporting a folder of still images.

The browser seeks through the video to capture frames, so exact sample times can vary with keyframe placement. The canvas is limited to 16 megapixels. If the selected frame count exceeds that canvas limit, processing reports an error; lower the count and try again.

04Limits and compatibility

The browser must support the source codec. Files can be up to 500 MB, though available memory and frame dimensions can still affect whether a file loads and how many thumbnails fit.

05 Questions

What if the chosen frame count exceeds the canvas limit?

The tool reports an error instead of silently reducing the frame count. Choose fewer frames and retry.

Are the frame timestamps exact?

Sampling uses browser video seeking. Keyframe placement can make the captured time approximate.
